I didn't say anything about the Appeal Court's decision regarding Prop 8 in California yesterday, not here anyway. I made 2 tweets about it, and left it at that. But I think I want, no, need to say something about it today

This is the first thought out post that I've seen on this matter, and for that I do respect you.
Do I share your views? No. But to me that doesn't change anything. I hope it doesn't from your perspective.
I was raised Catholic, but I'm not practising now. I like to believe in a God that values love above all else, and so to my mind, that love can exist between two people of the same sex. That's my view; I'm not about to impose it on anyone, I'm not about to shout down anyone who thinks differently. I would like people to respect it as I respect theirs.
For whatever reason the vote regarding Prop 8 went as it did, such was the word of the people. One line of your post stuck out at me...
By the way, this country's Founding Fathers only said we were entitled to the PURSUIT of happiness. They never guaranteed we'd get it.This is where the definition of happiness comes into it

I say this with all of the love and respect in my heart:
The only reason that you don't care is because it doesn't affect you.
You voted with your apathy, which makes you no better than a hypocrite.
I will sit on this side of the world with my loving partner of 2 years. A partner who loves me unconditionally, who supports me when I need it, who never asks for anything in return but my care and respect and that I give without obligation. We are happy, but we are not free. And I guess that doesn't matter because that is not persecution that is happening to you.
So thank you for your support. Really. I'm sorry that we have no impact on you whatsoever. Because I think that we have a lot to teach you.
I couldn't have said it better even if I'd tried, so I wont.
I support the right for everyone to live as they choose and please, as long as they are not physically hurting anyone.
I fail to understand why the same can't be said for myself and my wife, but I'll live my life happily without consent from the masses, if that is - and appears to be - the case.
I think it hurts more when people will not participate in open dialogue - rather, choosing to lecture and post without engaging in the possible responses to said argument
( ... )
I think, reagrdless of the issue, regardless of how popular the debate in society is, at the end of the day, if you can sit back and honestly say you don't persecute people for their view's and you don't try and jam your thoughts down someone else's throat - through debate or a singular post -, you are a good person.
If you believe in God or not, isn't that what should really matter?
And you are a good person, Sarah, I'll never doubt that. Your willingness to discuss the issue of the day tells me that. So does your defence of others and their rights, as well as your own.

I truly wish the same could be said for everyone.
