As I figured, I missed that job opportunity as well. The company wanted someone to start this morning. And I was in the library, where they like cellphones to be off

It's all pointing to Him coming through for us, rather than us coming through for us. It's a beautiful lesson on not only how to act with the people we are with, but also to rely fully on Him.
I agree with you regarding the "must be accessible 24/7". It is just an excuse for an employer to be disorganised, or a friend to be indecisive, regarding how and when they will contact you.
People who send invitations to me via SMS also get a kick up the backside.
On another note, I think your faith is wonderful and I hope you don't lose it during these difficult times (which, as far as I can tell, you won't!). I tend to have self-reliance to a point - my grandma's carer says that I should pay to the Angel of Parking Spaces to get parked when I go shopping. What's the point? I prefer just be patient and bother the Higher Omnipotence when I really DO need help.
Heath had a welfare patient in this afternoon who persisted on using TWO cellphones! She was apparently texting on one while talking loudly on the other.
And this was while he was trying to work with her!
People have absolutely no cell phone etiquette. People get mad at me all the time when I tell them that if I'm spending time with them I want to be with them, not their cell phone! And people look at you funny when you politely ask them to turn off their phone in the library, restaurant, meeting, etc. Really, if its that important, step outside.
Being in a 24/7 public service job I admit that I fall into that I want everything to be available now. It can be hard when you're working odd shifts to get things done if they are not 24/7 establishments. I have fallen into the trap more than once of being annoyed when people don't answer my emails in a day or two only to realize that its a) 3 o'clock in the morning, b) a weekend, or c) a holiday. Yeah, just because I'm working doesn't mean the rest of the world is.
I've faced this issue recently as well. I missed two potential job opportunities because I was in places where I though it polite to turn my phone off - the gym when I was with a trainer, and the library. By the time I retrieved the voice mail message and called back the opportunities were gone.
It's more of the "must have NOW" culture we've become. I really don't care for it much. I only check our mail box twice a week, and I'm more than okay having things mail-ordered. I just think it's far less stressful if we're prepared to take our time, be patient, and wait things out.
