So, I'm a big advocate of blowing any sort of "found money." Don't get me wrong: I'm a supporter of fiscal responsibility. To me, though, that means budgeting around take-home pay only, because if you count on things like recycling refunds, birthday checks, and bingo winnings to pay the bills, something is awry. Are you surprised because you don't have them in the city, or you just think we wouldn't have them here?

When my sister graduated from college, she put off job-searching for a while. She lived off the money from her graduation party beer bottles.

I'm surprised you have them at all. We didn't even have that in northern Virginia. Which I consider a good thing, because if we did, my brothers would never get jobs.

Nice! I think that's a good philosophy about found money. Better to enjoy it than invest it.
