I'm a professional cynic but my heart's not in it

We got out early today because of snow--but I got home at pretty much the same time. It took me an hour, when usually it takes 10 minutes! I have to say, that for a wealthy-in-finger-quotes area, Westchester certainly becomes useless in the snow. Also, I am very disappointed in March (March sucks!), and later March and I are going to have a heart- ( Read more... )

1) I don't care about March Madness either, but it doesn't seem to invade my life the way it has with you. I guess I'm so clueless I wouldn't even know Dick Vitale if I saw him.

2) I heart the Saw Mill, too, for all it's twisted strangeness.

3) Oh boy have I heard the Shatner "Common People."

4) I heart Northsix! When I saw the Plan there it was like, the best time I saw them ever. You seriously haven't heard Bright Eyes songs? That's kind of amazing to me. He's just always around! We played The Faint ("Worked Up So Sexual") at every party my house had in college. Good times.

Mar-
So what is your overall opinion on the Shatner record? I think it's very amusing, and fun to listen to. It's sort of in a league of it's own.

Bright Eyes...I've known of him for a few years, but never heard him. I actually confused him with a DC band called the Black Eyes, who are a cool noise/punk/jazzy outfit on Dischord Records. Well, my college friend Scott Hammer, who played in a badn called Dr. Acula had to set me stragiht about Bright Eyes/Black Eyes. Get it? A man named Hammer in a band called Dr. Acula telling me about Bright/Black Eyes and "Black Guys" if you say it really fast and "Black Eyed Peas" to many college kids...ok, I thought it was funny!

Haha. Dr. Acula is a great band name.

I don't have the whole Shatner record, I just had to download "Common People." I like how, just when it gets super-intense, Joe Jackson busts in for the chorus and does all the hard work. It's amazing. Do you like Pulp? You should!

Jesse put a couple (yes, more than one) songs from "Fear of Pop" on a tape for me, too. They're also amusing.

I love your entry title! The one I'm using illustrates my current worktime feeling.

Oh, and Becky, did you get up to the part where it says that "Common People" was partially written about Blur?

No!!! That is crazy!!! I am a slow reader, so I haven't gotten all that far in the book yet. Plus, I have an issue of Spin and two issues of Jane to catch up on. The Lawyer said to me the other day that he had read "20 books about science in the past year." I haven't even read 20 books total in the past year, and one of them was Simon Cowell's autobiography.

Snow sucks. Tell March to get her shit together when you have your heart to heart. She better as hell go out like a lamb.

I regret March weather!

I definitely think I finished fewer than 10 books all year. But that's partially because I hated one book that I started but forced myself to finish it (damn you Dave Eggers!). I'm doing better this year. I already finished The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but it's really short and I read it once already.

I think your comment subject is better than "Blow, blow me out, I am so sad I don't know why."

There are some pictures in the book. I must say, Damon looks really good in all of them :x. I don't see what the big deal about Justine is, though.

The KMI went to 11 last night.

Yeah, I hate feeling that I should finish books that I hate. I should really read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy since I heard it's really good.

What does "Blow, blow me out" even mean?

Damon is one of the most beautiful men ever to walk the face of this Earth. It kinda seems like part of his attraction to Justine was that she seemed rich and sophisticated (and Jewish!). He wanted to live like posh people, I guess.

Justine just doesn't photograph well, I think. I always thought Donna Matthews was the hot one in the band (and she probably was), but when I saw them live (post-Donna), Justine looked super-hot-- as hot as I would've imagined from only hearing her and not seeing any photos. Sara will back me up on this.
