Sammy is a tattoo artist (I know, right? I'm dating a fucking tattoo artist, I love my life). Together we're going to design and tattoo a full sleeve on my left arm. I have a million image ideas and we're putting everything together just fine.

My only question is this: colour or black and grey?

I'm definitely leaning that way. Thanks!

Hmm, I'd lean to black and grey, cos I like the style and cos it doesn't fade the way colour does over time. But there's stuff that doesn't work as well in black and grey as in colour and vice versa. What's Sammy best at/ favourite type to do?

Black and grey to start and here's why I feel this way: if you plan to have a full sleeve done, it can get very 'busy' in a hurry. Next thing you know, the images that the sleeve is designed around are lost in the mass of color and it ends up looking dark and unrecognizable. I've seen so many sleeves that are more than 10-15 years old that just look like, well, a sleeve of dark colors that have no definition anymore.

My suggestion would be to choose your main focal points and color those in, but as you start filling in the background, stick to black/grey. The important images will pop more and you can always come back later and color it in gradually.

Ok, truth be told, I am a black/grey type of person, but some images just lend themselves to color as others look better in black, so I guess it all depends on your design. Good luck!

You're too beautiful not to have colour in your life, baby.
