Kedra gets all the way into the paths and the portal closes behind them before Xaldin says, "Follow your heart, but stay on the paths. I can't promise that this will work."

The darkness is full of yellow eyes.

It was a strange feeling, passing through the portal, from bright sun to swirling darkness. I landed on the path to collect myself, and also look around. The eyes were curious, like a thousand reflections of my own off a dark lake.

"I...I believe it is this way," I said after a long moment of searching for home, for Mirazhe. I crouched, then pushed off into the air again.

Xaldin follows, fingers curved just so because with a target as big as a dragon -

it doesn't take long for the Shadows to come boiling out at them. Xaldin's lances appear in a flash and he lays about with all six of them as brutally as he can.

It's only difficult because there are so many of them. They fall dozens at a time to his wall of death.

I had not expected to be attacked.

"Rikti?" I cried, swiping at one with a claw. Rather foolish of me. Rikti cannot withstand Fire.

I Flamed the wave headed towards me, turning to catch as many as possible.

"Keep moving." Xaldin insists, "They will not stop coming until we are out again. Keep moving where your heart calls."

He's covering Kedra's back with lances and high winds.
