One of my ongoing frustrations with the internet is that search engines are not particularly good at retrieving the things you didn't know you wanted to see. In fact, they tend to return the things you've looked at before and give you more of that. Why do humanities get the beautiful reading room and the science and technology area get the one that looks like a late 1970s documentary on architecture and computer drafting?

Because most science and tech nerds don't really care about what the room looks like? And being in one that looks like a 70's computer drafting lab would be an asset for them :P

sometimes I search with Google for something like "amazing", but yeah, not so incredibly effective.

I do find that blogs can be good for that, though...if you find some good ones on topics you like, you get a steady stream of curated content, and then you can check out their blog links too and often find something cool and somewhat related
