Someone, possibly joansies, had posted to metal_community about Anthrax playing tonight in London (even though she's on the other side of the Atlantic) and that it was shocking they hadn't sold out. I was trying to think of a good way to persuade someone else on the filmsoc committee to oversee Hallam Foe for me so I could go get caught in a mosh ( Read more... )

It's a pretty oft-found response to furries, I've noticed. It's only the past few years, but there seems to be a very anti-furr sentiment on most non-furry websites.

I don't think it's fair, but I do think it's in some aspects related to their refusal (in most cases, albeit not the furries I know in real life) to admit that the concept that they are holding to appears ridiculous to most people. It can be a bit like creationism in that regards, except less mental. I'd much rather believe that I am a rabbit in a human's body than the earth having been made in six days less than 4,000 years ago.

This is the first time I've come across people actively shouting "GTFO!". Before I've only seen fun poking and a bit of boggling. The whole thing reminded me of a lynch mob, which is the sort of thing that makes me incredibly angry. I can understand why someone might have an aversion to furries, but to revert to an angry mob just because someone's mentioned it as a minor point in a completely unrelated application is complete bollocks.

Anyway, ironlord has stepped in in his mod capacity and told them all to grow up, so kudos to him. And yeah, furries over creationists any day. Religious fanatics tend to get innocent bystanders involved in their crazy.

Too right! At least furries aren't trying to aggressively convert anyone to their way of thinking. At least not unless they dress up as sharks and eat the unbelievers.

Well said - this is why I don't touch "ratings" communities with a bargepole even if they seem friendly (and insist they're not a ratings community ;) ). As well as saying No for that reason, the earlier responses were rather rude. Although it's nice to read the later responses.

I think that believing you are actually an animal is a bit mad (though no madder, and probably less harmful than beliefs such as creationism). One thing I've never understood though is whether this applies to everyone who identifies as a "furry". I mean, it's surely possible to enjoy roleplaying as an animal for whatever reason (or other things like enjoying furry fandom) without having the belief that you really are an animal...
