Oh, guys? And by guys, I guess I mean anyone who might be interested. Whoever you may be. Err, like I was going to say, I'm up on a mind-clearing sort of mountain retreat with Tifa. So if anyone gets to thinking about where Buffy is, don't get worryish about it. I'm good, I'm with great company, and as you can so easily guess--I've got my journal ( Read more... )

Getting away from it all, Buffy?

And thanks for the luck, although I could do without that cranky line.

Is this a not-so-subtle hint for me to make him one? I'm a doctor, not a housewife.

Not a hint at all. I fully intend to bring him a peanut butter and jelly sandwich once I get back to the village. No crusts, and crunchy peanut butter. Gotta be crunchy--anything else doesn't count.

And before I end up accused of being a housewife, this is a purely philanthropic effort. I'm just looking out for all those poor deprived souls who are missing out on pure peanut butter joy.

Good, because my cooking ability can barely go beyond baked beans.

Sandwiches are normally easier than baked beans, if my brief attempt at learning how to cook back home has left any sort of expertise in me. I can manage those things, plus pancakes if they're from a mix. But otherwise? My specialties tend to come home in take out boxes.

Mr. Scott is the self-confessed master of making sandwiches on the Enterprise. He'd slap any attempt out of an ensign's hand unless it was made perfectly. Take out boxes aren't that bad; you'll need them if you're climbing up these mountains for most of the day.

I've packed some food-shaped supplies. Nothing elaborate, but it'll keep the tummy from rumbling.

I don't think we're climbing too far up. It's sort of a girl talk and sparring combo thing that's going on. She is a train martial artist and me? Well, I've dabbled.

Just don't drop it on the climb up. And I can't say I know too much about martial arts myself. Jim bragging about being made assistant instructor in advanced hand-to-hand combat killed any interest I had in it. Plus, I was too busy.

Busy with what? Med school? I've heard that takes a while.

It takes ten years to be exact.

Ten years? Long time. I only lasted about a year and a half in college. I can't imagine going there for another eight and a half.

A very long time. Ten years of studying, marriage, having a kid, going through a messy divorce, all rounded up by having nowhere else to go but straight up. The three years at the Academy was just a little more bearable than the former... but hey, at least I have the right to put M.D. after my name now.

[Welcome to more of Buffy's brash and inquisitive nature.]

So, considering all the divorce drama, hen was the last time you saw him..uhm, her? Son or daughter?

A daughter. Joanna. And I get to see her whenever it suits the whims of my damn ex-wife.
