[Who could be knocking on his door? No-one knocks on his door. The admiral is so unaccustomed to the noise that on the way towards the door he peers around the rest of the apartment in case it had come from elsewhere. An intruder? An apple falling off the counter by chance? But the delay is only minor. He has his fingers on the handle in under half a minute.

This will be the second time that Buffy has seen him out of his formal attire. It irks him for a moment, seeing her seeing him, but very very soon afterward he sees her too. He opens the door wider and steps back.]

Would you like to come inside?

[ she steps in with her arms anxiously folded over her chest. a very protective, controlled sort of posture. ] I just -- there's a thing that's happened and I think you should know about it, first. Before I make the announcement.

[ because she will be making the announcement. no one else will take that duty from her. she doesn't want to hear it in anyone else's voice. ]

[Because really, what else could this girl feel honour bound to tell him? With any luck his saying the words aloud will make it easier for her. He gently closes the door.]

[ less than a week and jack would've had his penalty removed. they would've gone sailing. he would've taken her sailing. ]

[Derek's been scarce for a few weeks, doing his version of soul searching, staying out of sight of most folks once Raine had declared him fit enough to be excused from bed rest. Still, when he hears the announcement, he clicks his journal on.]

[There's a slight pause before he answers, but no hesitation in his voice.]

Been cleaning out the cave, but we can probably borrow an empty apartment or something once I get back into the village. Up to you.

[ early evening and McCoy has finished another shift at the battle dome clinic. with Buffy in dire straits over her sister's abduction, he naturally assumed she would've gone straight to the cullen house to stay with Jack and Jilly would be spending her time with Archie.

with that in mind, the doctor headed straight for his bedroom and closed the door behind him, checking on the kittens before turning his attention to the journal. this assumption is completely shattered when he listens to the message from Buffy on the network and... oh god, not again.

a few minutes later, there are a few tentative knocks on her bedroom door. closed -- if she isn't in there, he'll head down to the damn beach to find her. ]

[ it takes her a long few moments to respond: ] Bones?

[ because she hopes it's bones. jilly is sweet and all but...but buffy feels the duty to be strong around the other woman. and bones was here the last time...

she pushed back from her chair and walks to the door. waiting for an answer. ]

[hippocraticly]

It's me. [ his throat feels constricted after her message, but it's still the same southern murmur being projected at the closed door.

he shuffles on his feet, before he speaks up again, his voice tight. ] ... Can I come in?

[ she opens the door without another word, stepping aside. please, bones. do please come in. ]
