[H decides... he's in a nostalgic mood, so he decides he's going to tell her a "special" story. It's not one of his - too many of his own end in tragedy - but it's one of two people dear to him. While he's not positive on all the details, this should be the gist of it. And either way, it's the thought that counts]

Once... upon a time there were two officers. [He can't help but chuckle a little here before he goes on to explain a "story" which in some ways is true and in others is very fabricated]

These two officers had worked together for years, building up trust and a working relationship. One of these officers was a man... his name was Edmund. The other was a woman named Cathrine. Edmund and Cathrine had had many relationships over their career; at one time- [...] once, Edmund was actually known to be something of a lady's man.

However, none of their relationships ever seemed to quite... work. Edmund couldn't commit, and Cathrine... was usually too absorbed in her own work for the tastes of her boyfriends.
