This is Breakfast at Tiffanys with Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly and Orangey as Cat (poor slob without a name). I've both read the book and seen the movie. While I typically don't like it when movies make too many changes from the book they're based on, I was so charmed by the film and Audrey that I forgive it. The short story is so much grittier, which I like in its own way. I suppose if I had to pick one I'd say I prefer the film because I've seen it way more times than I've read the story. I'll just forget every scene with Mickey Rooney!
I agree: the short story is gritty while the movie is charming, and the Holly in print is extremely different from the Holly on screen. I also agree that the Rooney scenes in the film are unnecessary. Completely.
Audrey Hepburn in BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S. She's Holly Golightly and that's the infamous cat that they had to retake that famous ending more than a few times. **I read the bio on the making of the book.
