About the Book

Girl Overboard is a fictional account of an Asian-American high school girl named Syrah Chen who, due to an injury, is unable to pursue her dream of becoming a pro snowboarder. Instead she leverages her love for snowboarding in an unexpected and philanthropic way.

The book was released in January 2008. Author Justina Chen Headley has generously agreed to donate portions of profits from the Girl Overboard book tour to Chill, the non-profit organization founded by Burton Snowboards. For more details, please visit www.burton.com/postiveturntour

Hannah Teter, who donated all of her Olympic-related profits to World Vision, spends much of her off-hill time rallying support and funding for various causes. Hannah truly embodies the spirit of giving back and was thrilled to take part in the Positive Turn Girl Overboard tour and help promote the Go Overboard Challenge Grant.

"I'm really excited to go on the tour with Justina to inspire the youth of today to get involved in a cause they're passionate about," said Hannah Teter, Burton Global Team rider and Olympic gold medalist. "I want to challenge young people to create changes they believe in and that will make a difference."

    The Go Overboard Challenge Grant

Burton Snowboards and Girl Overboard author Justina Chen Headley, in partnership with Youth Venture, are co-sponsoring the Go Overboard Challenge Grant to fund the best youth-led ideas to change the world. The Go Overboard Challenge Grant encourages young people to commit to a cause they are passionate about and submit an action plan describing how their team (two or more persons) will "Go Overboard" to create a new, sustainable community-benefiting organization (venture). The challenge grant asks that participants form an entirely new venture to address a problem they have identified in their school, neighborhood, community or the world. The best ideas will win one of 12 grants, each worth $1000, to help them realize their vision. To learn more about the Go Overboard Challenge Grant, visit: www.burton.com/gooverboardgrant
