I noticed a piece of paper stuck to the door as I pulled it closed, pulling the note off the door and reading it. One of the Watchers wanted to meet with me? Okay then...who am I to argue
( ... )
I couldn't help but giggle when Miss Kensington said 'wigging'. It just sounded funny in my ears.
"Yeah, 'cause like I said before, no intention to die." I nodded, "Besides, Mike'd be kinda pissed off if I went and got myself killed after everything." I smirked a little.
"That's good to know. Although I should probably warn you, I'm not exactly used to relying on adults for stuff." I told her. It was definitely true. They were either useless, clueless, or something that could destroy everything Mike and I had worked so hard to cling to.
I could not help but give a smirk when I heard the young girl giggle, most likely from my clumsy use of the word "wigging".
"Ah..yes Mike Helgenberg. Training to be a watcher I believe." I knew the name but as of yet had not met the man.
"Being self sufficient does have its benefits. But there is no reason you should be completely self reliant. I am here to help you along your path of being a chosen one and to offer guidance, Miss Helgenberg." I told the young slayer.
"Yep." I smiled, "That'd be my big brother. Though I think he kinda feels even less like he should be here than I do." I told her. "But he's smart, always has been, so I'm sure he'll be fine."
"Well, I know most people would think being completely self reliant would be kind of weird, but that's just basically how Mike and I have always done things. You kinda develop trust issues when you grow up the way we did." I explained quietly, "But I promise I'll try to remember that I can come to you if I need to. It's just not something I'm used to."
"He is having doubts about becoming a Watcher?" Hearing what Miss Helgenberg had said about her brother I could not help but ask that.
"I would not expect you to trust me completely, Casey. As in all lasting relationships, that will come on time." For the life of me I cannot say why I used her first name, maybe being less formal with her would be a start in earning a bit of her trust.
"Just little ones. He'll be okay once he gets a little more used to the idea." I told her quickly, "He's kinda having the same issue I am, only instead of music, it's writing. Neither of us really expected to be here, but I'm not exactly complaining...being here's a lot less stressful in a lot of ways."
I couldn't help but smile when she called me by my first name. I wasn't expecting that and it was nice. More personal or something. "Right, one day at a time, I know. But me trusting anyone that isn't Mike wasn't done at all until I met Savannah, so this may take quite a long time." I explained appologetically, "But I promise I'll try."
"I'm going to keep you to that promise, Miss Helgenberg." A smile crossing my features after the words were spoken.
"If your brother is having doubts, even the smallest of them he should feel free to speak with one of the watchers here at the Academy. We are not here just to see to the training of new slayers." I told Casey. Sometimes having someone to talk to other then family could be helpful, even if the person was there just to listen.
