It was late, but still not quite midnight. Dawn had waited silently in her darkened bedroom for almost an hour, listening for sounds of Buffy in the house. While she thought she'd heard Buffy say she was leaving for patrolling a couple hours earlier, she couldn't be too careful. Stake in my hand, I heard a scuffle from off in the distance.
The producer of the scuffle was a pint-sized anomaly. Namely Dawn.

I helped her to her feet.
"Heya kiddo. What're you out for? Patrol?" I asked, actually wanting to know if they were around.

God, I nearly had a stroke, Dawn thought, making an effort to calm down her breathing. She'd been sure she toast -- but this wasn't Buffy, this was Faith. And Faith was too cool to turn her in.

"Patrol? Are you kidding, Buffy'd never let me patrol with them. Not in a million years," Dawn scoffed, "As the Chosen One's -- well, one of the Chosen Ones -- little sister, I have the oh-so distinct honour of having a sunset curfew until I'm old and wrinkly."

She paused, shooting Faith a contemplating look. "Do vamps even eat old people? I mean, they probably taste stale or something right?"

Dawn shook her head, changing the subject. "Doesn't really matter, does it... Sooo, are you patrolling?"

I allowed myself a mental laugh. That sounds like B, alright.
dunno about the old and wrinkly thing. I've never seen them suck on an old person, but yeah..
When you're hungry enough I guess...

I fibbed. "Yeah..patrolling."
In truth, I was bored, and broke. Not a good combo for a person who doesn't give a shit about killing people.
"So..what's goin' on, kiddo? Anything?"
I said, trying to get some info on anything that I might get a hand in.

Dawn raised an eyebrow, and made a quick decision.

"Yeah, actually," she said with a cajoling smile, "I'm sneaking out to meet ... a friend. Wanna come with? I think you'd like each other." Dawn headed in the direction of the old high-school, hoping Faith would come along.
