What do YOU want to do? Know more about the author or just read more of his stuff? I'd go for the stories first, then if I am intrigued, go on to early writings, and if I still want to know more about the author himself, then possibly to biography.
I already found some interesting recipes from researching that name (Michael Hastings) in my local library's newspaper/magazine database. Of course, the journalist going by that name and writing articles about food isn't the same Michael Hastings born in Illinois in 1980, and/but I find that interesting.
