Yesterday my family's exchange student, Christin, wanted to go to Bellingrath Gardens because she's about to leave and she hadn't been yet.  Christin, my mom, my boyfrind and I went out there for a few hours and it was sooo lovely.  In the past, I've only been at night during Christmastime when it's all decorated with lights (which is nice too).  I

For the first five years of my life my father was a handyman/maintenance worker at Bellingrath. We lived in a house on Bellingrath Road and spent every weekend at the gardens. Even after we moved to Mobile proper, we used to go to the gardens at least half a dozen times a year and we would always get in free because my father used to work there.

I haven't been back there since shortly after my father died, and they've changed a lot, but there are a lot of things still familiar, especially in my favorite area, the Oriental Gardens. I remember the red bridge and the torii-style gate with the big red gong hanging over it. It was only on my last visit to the Gardens in 1988 that I could actually read the Japanese written there.
