[The gentle snow has put Anne in a home-sick mind. She is carefully packing up what few belongings she has collected and is in the process of moving to live with Miss Jacky. Although she believes Kida's offers were very sweet and well-intentioned, it simply would not do to live apart from the other young woman whose story resonated so with her own ( Read more... )

Don't think I've heard that one before.

[She is so pleased to receive a prompt response.]

Perhaps -- I think -- I simply made it up. Writing songs takes quite a lot of imagination.

[ be grateful the vampire can tell you're a child, else he would be trolling up a storm here. kids, however, tend to get a lot more leeway from him. he'll blame this on dawn, nevermind that the way in which he treated the niblet had to come from somewhere, but let's not get into that now. we'll just go with it being dawn's fault. ]

I take it that's something you've got quite a lot of.

Of course. Everything would be so frightfully dull if I only had a bit of it. Though this place does an awfully good job of trying not to be dull. It only seems to do it in all the wrong ways, though.

[She pauses for a quick breath.] I'm Anne. Anne with an e. But you can call me Cordelia, if you like. [Because apparently in this place people sometimes actually indulge her weird name whims.]

That song is nostalgic, somehow.

It reminds me very much of home.

Sorry that I cannot write back, but my hands are a little full.

I'm sorry about the writing. Where are you from?

It is perfectly alright. I do love to read. And I'm from Avonlea, where it snows quite a bit like this in winter.

More singing and such a lovely song.

It's a humble song, but I think that makes it even nicer.

Humble is definitely one word for it.

[Jacky answers the door promptly and gestures Miss Anne inside.]

Welcome to your new home, for however long you may have the good or bad fortune to stay in it.

Good fortune, surely. [Anne breaks out into a smile and is not shy about setting her small carpet bag down immediately inside the door.

Enthusiastically, she reaches to take one of Jacky's hands. Be careful what horrible sugary sweet messes you have no doomed yourself to getting into.] I just know we'll be kindred spirits.

[Jacky clasps Anne's hand back, and smiles wordlessly, biting her tongue. She would love to induct Anne into the Dread Brotherhood, but she fears that some of the entry requirements would offend the other girl's sensibilities.]

You may put that bag there - [She points with her free hand to the second bedroom.] - or there - [She points to the third bedroom.] - or, if you would like to be very kindred, you may put it there. [She points to the first bedroom - her own.]

[Although she is no stranger to sharing a bed with her dearest bosom friend, Diana Barry, when they travel together to Charlottetown and visit Diana's aunt...this, well? Perhaps she should give Jacky her space. So with a sweet, polite smile Anne shakes her head.]

The second room will do just perfectly. Do you know if it has a view of a tree?

[After a moment, there's an answering tune being hummed back in a cheerful tone.]

That's quite beautiful.

Mine was just an old tune from home. Marilla would probably frown to hear me sing it and say something like "Anne Shirley, that kind of a shanty belongs down on the Rustico wharf and not in polite company."
