Dorothy sighs as she clicks through the channels. It may be her birthday, but she had no illusions about tonight. She always spends every Friday night alone lately, ever since allowing herself to do what she sometimes, like tonight, feels was a mistake and openly fall for Blanche Deveraux. It was one thing to love the Southern belle from afar, but it's a wonder Blanche ever spends any time with her.
It's a wonder, she thinks, that a beautiful woman like Blanche wants her at all, but she does want her. Just last night, they had a searing lovemaking session that left Dorothy breathless and her body sore and aching all day. Dorothy feels herself smiling at the memory, something she's done off and on all day, despite her expectations for her birthday, to the point she heard one of her students whisper, "She must've finally got some." Dorothy had turned seventeen shades of red and ended that class early.
It wasn't a mistake, she thinks again, to let Blanche know how she felt. Blanche didn't turn from her in revulsion but instead confessed her own feelings for Dorothy. Even if she had made it known from the beginning of their new relationship that she would always want men too, it still wasn't a mistake. Sharing Blanche with Miami's entire male population is worth it to spend a few hours in the belle's loving arms. Blanche does everything she does with a passion worthy of her hot, Southern heritage of which she's so proud, and when they're together, Dorothy is never left wanting. Blanche makes her feel like she's the only one she could ever love -- until their time together comes to an end again and Blanche goes on the next day to find a man.
Dorothy's noted that her girlfriend no longer spends more than two nights with the same man. Her heart isn't in her affairs, only her body, but still, it's Friday night and Friday nights, Dorothy knows, are for Blanche to be seen out on the town with her men. She tried to get her to go out on a double date tonight, but Dorothy doesn't want to pretend interest in any one but the beautiful woman she loves.
"Come on, Pussycat."
"Ma? What?" Dorothy asks as Sophia flicks off the TV and starts for the door.
"You're coming with me. It's your birthday. We're eating out."
"Fine. Let me get my purse." Dorothy grumbles the whole way, but it's better, she supposes, than sitting at home all night on her birthday. There's nothing on TV any more any way.
They're just finishing dinner when the lights suddenly flicker and go out. Candles light up around the room. Rose leads the "Happy Birthday" song as a huge cake is wheeled out. At the end of the song, a certain, beautiful woman pops out. Dorothy sits, staring open mouthed.
"Well?" Blanche demands. "Are you just goin' to sit there or are we gonna go home an' celebrate properly?"
"CHECK!"
