When I first found m/m slash,I was delighted, but as you say,so much is repetitive, forming a parallel with het romance.A lot of readers just want something sugary and forgettable (het and m/m),but I'm always up for something romantic with some humour and drama, period or contemporary, just stop dropping sex scenes in every 5 pages as required by the publisher, who also says no more than x number of pages to tell the story, making some authors stop rather abruptly. Rant over.Thank you for testing books and giving an honest opinion.
I think however there is a line between well done 'sugary and forgettable' and shall we say 'mass produced' sugary and forgettable? I don't mind something light and fun and fluffy if it is well done. The problem comes with as you said sex scenes every five to ten pages, and the fact that most of the sex follows a predictable choice of wording, and actions that most others seem to have a hard to breaking out of or varying from. Which parallel's very nice the annoying trash romance format, though usually not quiet so flowery perhaps due to the lack of the female flower.
OK yeah I'm going stop I can rant on this subject myself from one end of the room to the other and probably back again. ;)
No,I'm with you on that, something fluffy but well done is very welcome. We'll just have to choose books carefully, since good quality of whatever genre we like is in short supply.
