These are neat ideas for the kinds of papers any fan would want to read, or write, in any fandom. BSG isn't among mine, and I only just saw this (with deadline asap). Still, someone may like

Fer sure. I watched the entire first and second (????) seasons of BSG with my older sister once when I was visiting -- it was cool. But, but but ... I'd have to have watched it again, or on a weekly basis, to achieve that strange "falling in lust" kind of thing that inspires fic and/or meta: to suddenly be fanning it. And with no TV? No regular viewing

Not in BSG fandom, but I love your Faniversity icon! It's so true; I learn more off of metafandom than in several of my classes.
And it's good to see you over here again! although I support your decision to leave LJ and probably should too (though I tell myself it doesn't matter, since I use mine much more for reading and commenting than posting). I need to do a better job of keeping track of multiple sites. :/ How are you faring after the diaspora?
Oh, blegh - I've been so jammed, I'm barely online lately, except to read new fic, which doesn't count: LOL. I break for fic!
I love IJ. We should all be there. Their default is uglerific but it's easy to set up one's style and the accounts are cheap.
Mainly I've just been reading LJ, posting to IJ. I forgot this time :-) Need to crosspost it (Mac = no Semagic :-(
But have a play and a wrap party to go to tonight - OMG, must wash hair, rummage for clothes, uh uh uh...
Thanks for the compliment on the Faniversity icon! I too ADORE online fandom for learning so much - truly, it is way way better for learning and refining ideas on many major topics (fandom, authority, race, identity among them) than ANY conversation at my university! And I hang with lots of faculty and grads as well as undergrads, so it's sad to say there's not a lot of intellectual happenings most days -- but there almost always is online, every day :D
Hey check above - what would your list be of "fandom conference panels I'd like to hear / host / be part of
Wow! Awesome! I'm truly delighted you found this interesting.
So tell me: what is this "downloading" they refer to, as in "Feminist readings of many of the series' themes and leitmotifs, such as "downloading."" ???
'Downloading' is a metaphor for reincarnation in the show - when you kill a Cylon, their memories are downloaded into a clone body. In season 3 (season 4 by the US counting method), one of the Cylons starts committing suicide in order to experience the moment between death and life. (For robot killing machines, they have extremely powerful senses of emotion and spirituality.) The only bit that I can think of in the downloading process that you could interpret in terms of sex is the business of naked actresses in a bath of translucent slime at the moment they are reborn. (Occasionally it's men, but it's usually women.)
I went with "Lee Adama: Not an ornament at all, actually" - we'll see what they think of it :)
