You know what the problem is when deciding whether to watch the '96 Wind in the Willows or the '06 version? They're both good, but both have their drawbacks

There isn't a sequel. But there may well have been an elaboration of the plot on the part of the script writers. It seems William Horwood wrote some sequels, but that's in our own lifetime I believe - Wikipedia is my friend.
I think the trouble with the live action versions of the book is that they do tend to want very recognisable people to take the lead roles. I find it difficult to believe them as animals. As a child, there was an animated version. Admittedly, they had some very great actors voicing the main characters - see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wind_in_the_Willows_%28film%29 It meant that you could watch the characters whilst believing in the animal side of the characters. If they have that on DVD, then get hold of it. It really is magical.
