I don't have any advice how to deal with this, but I can definitely sympathize. I grew up with both my parents smoking heavily, and it was not that big of a problem for me back then. But later I got used to smoke-free environment and I've become intolerant of smoke. I'm not allergic, but I cannot stand the smell, even if it's only on somebody's clothes, etc.

I don't think at all that what you are experiencing is overblown. I hope your supervisors will understand that this is not just a matter of "preference" for you. *hugs*

thank you.

yeah, for years i limited my travel on public transit & through public places because of this.

i try, i really do. & occasionally someone's smoking something that doesn't leave that horrid 'grey sludgy' smell [is that right? acrid, bitter, astringent, the equivalent of an unripe persimmon in the mouth] and i can stand to be around them for a little bit, but that's not often.

oh well. the mom of the young lady is willing to help me sort it there, & i've a meeting later this week with the director of clinical services & the case manager [which terrifies me- i always expect to be fired- but is necessary, & my fear's irrational].

I don't have any suggestions or advice. I really hope you're able to work something out because being around cigarette smoke all the time while you're at work is just awful.

I have no idea about the actual laws around this, but my gut says it would be massively illegal to fire you over something like this. That just cannot happen.
