This anecdote (although I'm familiar with a slightly different version) was forever ruined for me when it was the prompt on a college essay where you had to write about what it meant to you or something like that. Ick.

yeah, one of my pre-nursing profs did that to us, too. so i wrote about how when something really nice like that is used that way, it takes the fun out of it for a lot of people, but it doesn't destroy the power of the story.
she quit using it after that. lol. lord i was mean.
