So it's probably no secret that, once Kucinich was out of the race, I supported Obama ( Read more... )

Thank you very much. I am so glad to see someone else say the things I have been saying for quite some time. Personally, I am rather ill that schools are already changing their names because "He's the best president this country has ever had." Okay, maybe he will be, but he isn't even frakin' President yet ( ... )

yes. who knows how Gore would have done? I know i would have freaked the hell out, and i'm not above vengeful feelings, though i try not to act on them.

being President is one of the hardest things a person can do. yes, i know they choose to run. but i think it's like being in charge on a short-staffed night shift in a level-three trauma hospital when there's a catastrophe- i don't care how smart, how experienced, how compassionate, or how good you are, you WILL be worn out and different by the end of that shift, or you weren't paying attention.

we NEED two, maybe THREE parties, to keep the machinery oiled. there's a role for each one, and each one fills out part of the picture.

these are the times they are. and they'll be the times they'll be. it's who we'll be that matters.

Exactly. Being responsible for the lives and well being of 5 or 6 people is hard enough as it is, but to be responsible for 300 million people, unfathomable.

Such a lovely post hon, I only wish that I was as inspired by a new Canadian government as you are with yours.

*hugs*

i hope to be inspired, i truly do.

it makes a big difference to me that i took poli-sci and native american studies and chicano/latino film studies so recently. i'm kind of required to THINK in a different way than i ever have.

i dunno. be the change you want to see? when i was thirty- what, two? three? i've lost track- the president was Ronald Reagan, who, as governor of California said, "If you've seen one Redwood, you've seen them all," and closed the state mental hospitals without putting in place the community mental health programs that were to take up the slack. and george the first was vice president.

if i'd stuck with that, then, i'd've given up by now.

gotta keep at it, bit by bit.

(lol, i sound like an elder stateswoman. and the bears, including ms Scarlett, are watching the inauguration on the laptop.)

I'm sure you will be inspired, in one way or another.

I'm sure after going through poli-sci and going through the Reagan years, the Clinton years afterward as well... not to mention these past 8 years, you're ready for a change with a whole new perspective.

I hope that President Obama doesn't crumble under the pressure of everyone's lofty expectations - true he's not god or even an angel or such, he's only one man... but a lot are expecting great things from him and I just hope he has the strength to carry through even when things get rough and he's being criticized, because he will be, no matter what... any new President, Prime Minister, Head of State etc. is open for criticism.

(lol, you do a little bit, but a very educated, wise stateswoman *hearts* I'm at work on lunch so I can't watch but I'll check it out tonight while I'm recovering with the bears :* )

i think he's known for a long time just how much pressure this will entail- not how it will FEEL, but that it will be a lot- and i think he's got a tremendous team, and that michelle is right there with him (think about it. would you fuck with her husband? she's some serious woman, and some serious person, she is!), and it looked to me like his girls had as good an idea as they could of what he's taking them all into.

you know, "they" say that The West Wing was modeled on him, all those years ago. And now, here it is.

yes, we can.

(also, how cool is ReGenesis, and why did i not know about that until Hulu? canadian TV is so very good!)
