It has been brought to my attention that there is someone on Tumblr reposting entire fics by various authors as "fic recs."

While I'm sure this person meant no harm, and had no malicious intentions, my fics are not friend-locked for a reason. Even if you don't have a LiveJournal, all you have to do is press a little button, and you can read my fics ( Read more... )

I have been messaging everyone I seen on there since addicterated told us about it. I was on my way too you... :) I'm glad you found out already. Some of the post don't even have the authors name on it...that's just not right but I think this person is super young to (no excuse but it's a learning process)

I haven't said anything to whoever it is directly, since I figured they'd have enough people ganging up on them as it is. I was also one of the few authors who actually got a link to their journal and their name, rather than the little C-for-Copyright thing, so I figured my infraction was also less detrimental than that of other authors who were posted.

I did, however, report the Tumblr.

I've been talking to a few other authors, and I know for certain that Lovestrucksmile is rather upset that more than one of her fics have been reposted there.

Hopefully this will be a learning experience for whoever it is.

Authors all appreciate fanfiction recommendations from readers to other readers, but taking content and posting it elsewhere, no matter how well-meaning a person's intentions are, is not okay to most authors.

I understand lovestrucksmile being upset since this has been a huge concern for her for a while. I think that the tumblr owner is only 14 and that has a lot to do with the her not understanding that this is not the best way to rec fics.

I'm glad you are handling it so well and are not too upset. :)

I think I'm more disappointed than upset, really. I'm still a new author - I've only been writing fanfiction for like, uhm... Let me do the math, I'm balls at this... June of this year, so like five or six months? But some authors in the fandom have been around for years, and have had to deal with issues similar to this for ages and ages.

It's frustrating, as an author, because we share content because we like when people enjoy what we write. When things are reposted, it's sort of feels like someone is taking advantage of the trust we place in the people who read our works not to do things of this nature. I know there have also been even worse issues involving outright plagiarism, where fics are actually claimed as someone else's writing when they are, in fact, not - I think if that were the case here, I'd be incredibly upset. This is relatively minor in comparison, and is probably easily rectified if the Tumblr in question is receptive to the requests of the authors involved, so I'm trying to stay level-headed about it.

No reason for you to be sorry! Thank you muchly for getting the word out in the first place - I might never have heard if you hadn't.

Hopefully this can all be dealt with civilly and quickly, and a good lesson can be learned on the part of the Tumblr owner and anyone who follows the Tumblr itself.

It was my feeling that I wanted both other writers and readers to know it was happening and that it was not cool or sanctioned by the authors. I think sometimes people assume "it must be okay" with the writer and well, it isn't.

Glad you got the word and btw, that icon is of a picture that is one of my favorites EVER of him *flails around*

I hope so, and anyway, nice talkin' to ya :)

I was going through my watch list and saw your post today. I do want to apologize I was the one who recommended your fics to her in the first place. I saw she was a fic rec collection a few weeks ago on tumblr and never bothered to click a link and realize she was reposting fics. I simply saw she'd liked Ontae and figured she might like to read more and share it. I think you're an amazing author and you're stories should be shared, but in the proper way. I'm really sorry my negligence has caused your fics ending up there.

I don't think anyone ever expects a fic rec to be set up that way. It seems like a lot of extra work, to be honest, as as a naturally lazy person linking is infinitely more simple. Plus I'm anal about continuity in formatting, and every author has a different style of it. LOL

No hard feelings from me, I assure you! Particularly if you weren't quite aware of exactly how the recs were being put together, since you obviously don't condone it. n__n

I just hope this mess can be sorted out for all of you authors and she starts doing a fic rec the proper way.
