Thankfully, this was defeated soundly.

Everyone who continues to vote for Republicans is part of this problem. Until y'all understand that the GOP has been co-opted by the religious nutbags and the oligarchs, you will continue to lend them credence which they should not have.

It is easier to be a conservative Democrat than a liberal Republican. Even the Republican candidates who aren't certifiably bat shit crazy have to pander to the bat shit base in order to get nominated. Complete morons like Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry are treated as serious candidates by that party. With their pledges to lobbyist Grover Norquist, they show how little regard they have for the Constitution and the America people.

In my opinion, anyone who votes for Republicans, even at a local level, is feeding the irrational ravenous religious beast that the Republican party has become.

Believe it or not, I am slowly coming around to that view. But, one cannot resist from the outside. There is also the issue that I have been so screwed over by the bat-shit progressive left that I could never be a Democrat. I am not the only moderate Republican in that position.

You forget that there are far fewer bat shit progressive lefties in the Democratic party than there are bat shit religious fundies in the Republican party. Like I said, it's possible to be a conservative Democrat. One of them is my State Senator, Mary Landrieu. It is not possible to be a liberal Republican. You cannot resist from the inside. There is no room for you inside. You are not ideologically pure enough if you support women's choice. If you are not pro-lifelie, you have no voice as a Republican. If you are not anti-tax, you're not a Republican. If you don't hate the government and want to drown it in a bathtub, you're not a Republican ( ... )

thank you for that. I shudder to think what would happen if such a law made a toe-hold in this country. "The Handmaid's Tale" would be the best possible outcome. I don't understand how these people can think that the Christian version of Sharia is any better than the Islamic counterpart.

I have been able to convince hard-lined theocracy-minded individuals to support a strong separation between church and state. Since religion is always an "us versus them" mentality, find out the subset of their religion that they consider a "them, very them, evil, evil, them." For most non-Mormon evangelical Portestants, that will be Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses.

What if a Mormon was in control? They're sneaky. They know the bible and could easily blend in with Conservative Christians. But once you bring officialdom to Christianity at all levels of government, they spring the surprise. You now must be Mormon or be sentenced to death. Do you want that? Do you want Mormons forcing their views on you and your grandchildren?

Works every time.
