The Palestinians don't deserve Abbas, he's too good for them.

He's been a tireless worker for them and their best interests.

What I don't understand is why the Hamas resistance to a call for early elections. This is an opportunity for Hamas to prove that they really do have the hearts and minds of the Palestinian people. It can only go one of two ways, they can either win again or lose ( Read more... )

Hamas didn't win because the people actually wanted them to win. People wanted the othre party to win but I forget who it was... anyways, a few of them decided that they would show their disapproval by voting for the Hamas, kinda like we show our disapproval for Kerry by voting for Bush. Except too many people voted for Hamas and Hamas won, kinda like how Bush won.

I am not sure that your theory is true. If it is, then there is even more reason to give them a chance to recant and an even greater chance that they would ignore a Hamas call for an election boycott.

That said, the Palestinian people were massively stupid in doing that and they are learning that lesson now.

It's also a perfect example of why you should vote for who you really want in office, and not try to base your vote off of what you think other people will do.

Vote Independant god dammit, fuck the republicans AND the democrats! In fact, Vote Dennis Stout as Presidential write-in for 2008.

Actually, if McCain runs for Pres in 08, that's how I'm going to vote. And even though Powell has always adamantly stated he won't, I wouldn't even have to think to check his name on the presidential ballot.

I'm not even going to bother to try to find proof of my theory, because all I'd really find are peoples opinions.. infact, you could say my theory is nothing more than my own opinion. It was based on what I heard on NPR during the elections though, even though I forget now what it was I heard.

Has it only been a year? It's felt like a decade, even though the last 7 months have felt like a week.

Regarding the time, I agree with you there. The Hizbollah shit was only a few months last Summer. The Radical Right Islamists have been busy.

I've always been for Powell. We have to work on his wife to let him run though. She's the boss there.

1. re Powell's wife being boss: in a long working marriage the "boss" generally is so because the 2 agree.

2. re Palestinian choices: I think that retalitory fear may, nay, must play a part in the voting. Why? because Hamas reminds me of Cosa Nostra days in Sicilian history as well as US prohibition days. And that means "do it our way or die"

On the 1st point; that's true or it isn't a working marriage and why my 2d one failed.

On the 2d point; They didn't have the UN observation teams then, as they had in even the last election. They are designed to detect coersion and they're pretty good at it. About the only thing Hamas could do is to try an enforce a boycott at which point the UN will invalidate the election.

However, this is also a case of; die one way or die the other. The Hamas platform is going to get them killed anyway. Who cares if it's an Isaeli missile or a Hamas suicide bomber? Smithereens is smithereens, either way. Hamas forcing people away from the poles with bullets would spark the civil war that everyone's so worried about.
