Should we be worried? The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and EuroNext agreed to merge. This will create the first ever true International equity marketplace. The new company will be called NYSE Euronext and will have trading floors on both continents. Euronet shareholder will lose out, just slightly but it is roughly a par:par deal. Now this is very scary. The points you raise are frighteningly realistic.
Many years ago I thought the such a union would/could only be postive. But that was before I learned that our leaders in all areas political, societal, cultural (psc -?) were not really idealists. By the 1970's, I lost the trust in most leaders and have yet to regain it. I wish what you wrote could be tossed off as fantasy.

Silver Lining though: When one ofthe EU regulators does something retarded, us Americans can say "You Stupid Europeans!" in the same tone they say "You Stupid Americans!" right now!

I have a feeling European politicians make just as many mistakes as American ones, we just don't hear about them becuase they're not as popular.

For example, when was the last time you heard _anything_ from the Monarch of Liechtenstein? I've never heard anything, because Liechtenstein isn't news. They aren't popular :)
