"I know." Richard nodded. "It's felt like this ever since Mother left, up until-" He sighed. "But things are getting better. Isaac's been working with the people here, trying to keep things from getting too bad."
"They missed me?"
"Very much. Grandfather blames himself for what Father did, and regrets that it got so far. Believe me, we would have gotten in touch sooner, but-"
"I know." He never understood why Mother never let him even speak to his father's kin, never mind even write. At first, he resented it, but now he couldn't really blame her...
"It's so quiet..."
