North Korea sentenced Laura Ling and Euna Lee to twelve years hard labor today.

I have no words for how profoundly depressing that is.

In other news, the UK elected two facists to the EU Parlament, way to go UK, but Sweden sent a member of the Pirate Party AND the new German Pirate Party had a pretty good showing for its first election.

You're correct, but like most Americans, distinguishing bits of the UK is difficult for me.

If we trade favors for their release, we lose. If we do nothing, the two women lose. The only way both we and the women win is if we impose costs on North Korea until the women are let go.

Is Obama man enough to do this?

Laura Ling and Euna Lee aren't enjoying their hoped-for change very much, are they?

Nope, but neither would Obama have encouraged them to like, totally film a secret documentary inside North Korean borders! Just like Laura Ling's big sister did! That said, it doesn't mean I think they were committing real espionage, nor do I think being stupid is just cause to do twelve years in a NKorean labor camp. And I like Current.

Besides, it's obvious that Dear Leader must be worse off than we can actually know. Once he finally kacks it, the new boy will want to make some assurances of his own. That's what this is really about, in the end.
