Ignorance is an excuse

In certain contexts, it's unworthy of the person(s) making it.

And in other contexts? Emblematic of how little their best is worth.

Yes, I'm addressing an old meme.

Also: Diahann Carrol's JULIA. If you watched it, know it, please shed some light this way. THANKS!

And Jada Pinkett Smith's Hawthorne. OLD MEME. OLD OLD MEME. OLD MEME ( Read more... )

The thing about Julia is that there were so few black people on tv that it was just something you had to watch. I'd say like a train wreck but it wasn't like that for me and my family. I was a kid fresh from England where I'd never seen a black person on television before and searched everywhere for a black doll - Christie was such a must have Barbie in the day. I digress but it was just that she was like my mother, like my family members, the boy my brother's age, so relateable. But even the white people in the little town in Kentucky where I was the first year it aired watched, some thought my brother looked like Julia's son and perhaps he did a little - the same color. I was too young to recall any episodes that were my favorites but I've never forgotten it, never. We embraced that showand the beautiful and wonderfully talented Ms. Carroll and it became a part of us, something we sorely needed.

Hi, you! Been a looong time. :)

I don't think you digress with Christie at all! :D

it became a part of us, something we sorely needed.

Thanks so much for sharing this with me. :D

Maybe it's cool then, that there's a show that's got a main character that's similar to Claudine like, 40 years after it aired?

But, now, I'm wondering... how shows starring white nurses have there been on the air in 40 years, and how many shows starring black (or asian, ndn, latina, actors have their been). Boy, Hollywood has lost money hand over fist for years and I'm thinking I know why.

Good to read from you anyhow.
