Fic Dump #1

Aug 14, 2011 18:41

Alrighty then, I'll start doing fic dumps. I'll try to vary what I put in the posts, if not in content (it won't be in content) then in length. I think I'll aim for one long-ish piece per post and whatever drabbles I have lying around. Apologies to those of you who have already seen this stuff, but I'm sure you can bare the disappointment tolerably looking at you, erethesunrises.

Characters: Hestia and Hades
Content Warnings: crying Hestia None
Setting: Back in the day

It was early evening and still warm. The garden was full with the sound of bird song and the sun was low in the sky. Hestia sat alone in a secluded copse in the maze, sobbing into her handkerchief. She felt as though her heart was being torn from her chest. She had known that the family would be broken sooner or later, but she had never wanted to face it. And now it was even worse than she had allowed herself to believe.

"Hes?" She looked up; her brother was standing before her. She wiped her eyes as he stepped over and sat down beside her.

"I'm s-sorry, I just-"

"Don't apologise," he said. "You've nothing to apologise for." He put his arm around her shoulders and she leant against his chest, tears beginning to fall again.

"Th-This is just so awful! I don't want the family to be broken up like this and now y-you have to leave and live the farthest away and I just can't-"

"You knew this was going to happen sooner or later," he told her quietly.

"I w-wish it wouldn't! We're all so happy here together!" Hades gave a derisive snort.

"Happy? Yes, if you can call the constant bickering and the relentless need to trump one another fun."

"B-But with Zeus as our king now-"

"Zeus is a selfish ass."

Hestia gave a shaky sigh. "I wish you could stay here," she confessed quietly. Hades hesitated awkwardly.

"Don't say that," he said. She looked up at him, confused.

"Why not?"

"Because... I don't want to stay here." Hestia furrowed her brow slightly.

"But it's so nice here. It's beautiful and peaceful and there's always company and our whole family is here."

"Hes, you know I like to keep to myself. And all our siblings do is harass me."

"It's just teasing, they don't mean-"

"Don't be naive, you know exactly how they feel about me," he sneered. "Whatever they say to you might be a joke but there's always a cruelness in tone when they say those things to me. I'll be glad to leave, I'm sick of it. You're the only thing I'll miss about this place." Hestia looked at him in some surprise.

"You don't... mean that." Now he looked to her in surprise.

"Of course I do. All that's here are pretty gardens and infuriating family members." Hestia pursed her lips.

"I think you will miss it rather more than you'll admit." Hades huffed and grimaced but said nothing. Hestia placed her arm around him. "I know you say that you do not care, but if that were true then what they say would have no bearing on you." Hades avoided her eye. "They do love you, Brother." Hades sighed and looked at her with a slight smile on his face.

"They show it in an odd way." Hestia smiled.

"As do you! You are the worst of all, if anything," she laughed weakly. He rolled his eyes, and she laughed harder. She dabbed her eyes and blew her nose. "Come on; let's go in." She kissed his cheek and got to her feet. He looked at her a moment before slowly standing up.

"Will you be alright?" he asked, holding his arm out for her. She placed her hand in the crook of his elbow.

"I think so," she smiled. "A nice simple job surrounded by family and I will be quite content."

"You will visit?"

"If you want me to."

"Of course I want you to. You won't even have to ask." She laughed.

"Alright, then it's settled."

Characters: Hera, Demeter, Hestia
Content Warnings: None.
Setting: Back in the day.
Word Count: 68
She would not admit, even to her sisters, that she was nervous. She had the appearance of complete serenity as Hestia did up her hair and Demeter massaged fragrance into her hands. She spoke nonchalantly about sex, though her throat was dry and she felt as though someone else was talking. Demeter giggled in awe at her daring while Hestia looked embarrassed and worried at her own lip.

Characters: Rhea, Hades
Content Warnings: Too much cute, possibly.
Setting: Let's just assume that these are all set back in the day unless otherwise stated.
Word Count: 152
Rhea gathered her brooding son up into her arms and kissed the top of his dark hair.
"It is such a shame you are unable to make peace with your brothers," she said, rocking him gently.
"They don't want to make friends with me."
"The fault is not only on their side; you provoke them as much as they do you."
"They deserve it," he grumbled.
"I'm pleased you get along so well with Hestia."
"She's nice to me."
"Quite," Rhea smiled, "though I am still concerned. I don't want you to be lonely and isolated, dear." He shrugged and buried his face in her chest. "We could find you a pet," Rhea suggested. He looked up, a slight frown on his face.
"Like what?"
"Well, we'll see what there is, won't we?" She brushed his hair back and kissed his forehead. "Then you could have a special friend all for yourself."

Characters: Persephone, Hestia
Content Warnings: Blatant self-indulgence.
Setting: As above.
Word Count: 175
It was cool that evening. She found her aunt sitting in a small tholos, drinking spiced wine and watching over a group of minor godlings who were playing in the dying light. Her aunt smiled at her, handed her a cup of the warm wine, and bid her sit down.
After several minutes of comfortable chatter, Hestia said "How did you find my brother?" Persephone shifted slightly.
"He was very distant." Her aunt laughed gently.
"Yes, he is quite," her eyes were alight in the twilight. Persephone felt slightly put out.
"He is an enigma to me," she admitted quietly. "I don't know if I will ever love him as I should."
"Then why did you choose to marry him?" Persephone looked up; meeting her aunt's eye, she knew there was nothing to be gained from lying.
"How did you know?"
"Because I know my brother," she replied simply. "Ridiculous as he is, I know he would not have forced you to eat against your will, regardless of what my sister will insist on believing."
