May 11, 2011 16:28

Okay so the last few weeks in my Comparative Mythology paper we've been looking at the Eleusinian Mysteries and the myth of Demeter and Persephone (specifically the Homeric Hymn to Demeter). And so naturally I have lots of Thoughts on the whole thing ( Read more... )

Oh my God you don't know how I love this entry.

I'm a Literature major in my undergrad, but we never had any Comparative Lit subject, and we only had a very brief overview in Greek Mythology. It's my first time hearing about the Eleusinian mysteries though; the nearest that I can recall are the Elysian Fields argh I epic fail at life. I love how you discussed things here in this post, and I would really love to read more. :)

But sadly I have to study for my comprehensive exams next week, and the nature of my grad school and work doesn't allow me to have a very comprehensive view of Literature anymore. :( Maybe I'll make a comment about this at Facebook, and I'll see as to how my Lit major friends and teachers comment about this. :D Thank you Waterprincess! :)

I'm an English Lit major too, but part of my heart will ALWAYS belong to Classical Studies, especially myth ♥ I'm doing my Honours year this year, and normally you're supposed to do three papers in your major, but the uni was happy to let me substitute in a Classics paper :D Which is FANTASTIC, because I've had my eye on this paper since first year, hahaha. I've been in love with Greek myth for about a decade now? xD

I'm so glad you enjoyed the post! I could talk about Greek myth for HOURS~ Y'know, if you ever have the time, hahaha. As a side note, no-one's sure where the name for the Elysian Fields comes from, but naturally there are theories that it's linguistically related to Eleusis :)

You're very welcome, and thanks for your comment, Hima! ♥
