I'm not sure how easy it would be to acquire this book but I really enjoyed 'Was' by Geoff Ryman. It's a take on Wizard of Oz except so much darker and history-filled. Think 'Wicked' (the author was actually inspired by this) but not as political and more emotional.
The Binding Chair by Kathryn Harrison is really interesting and hooking. It's about a woman with bound feet, how she escaped her marriage and freed herself, only to find herself bound by the circumstances with her feet.
this book looks really sad;; but i trust your recs, so i'm going to put it on there o: (and i'm really fascinated by that time period, even though the main book i've read who had lots of characters with bound feet was the good earth and i hated it lmao)
Lol, I was reading down the list and I was like dude, none of my recs made it *sadface* but then I saw the message at the bottom and said frown was turned upside down
( ... )
LMAO I'M SORRY MY AIM HISTORY WASN'T SAVING;; but this is nice, i think last time you mostly gave me authors and it works for this list to have specific books o:
thank you xD i really love book recs;;
and i actually probably have like. every ursula le guin book written, my dad was a die-hard fan, lmao.
dune always makes me think of you o: i think it's because of that yunchun story, lmao, but. I'LL THINK OF YOU WHEN I READ IT /CRIES
i could see you not being crazy about toni morrison, it makes sense, since you didn't like haruki murakami's style? she has a vague, lack of concrete explanation/fact that can be kind of, strange. sula left me with a weird feel, like half of it went over my head, but i kind of like that style, lmao xD and jazz just has something about it that clicks with me o: i haven't tried nemirovsky yet, so we'll see how that goes!
I've also maybe kinda sorta expanded the list. Because I'm sneaky like that.
I found Toni Morrison to be very depressing. I read Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston before attempting Song of Solomon and the two together were just too much. That's what I like about Armistead Maupin, he makes me cry, but it's not without reason and I don't feel hollow and sad when I finish his books. That and the gay romance is jolly good too.
i'm going to start with this for now, but i'm sure at some point i'll be asking you for more recs, lmao <3
i actually don't know much about song of soloman (i just amazoned it to check out the summary), but that's an interesting way to look at her writing o: sula was depressing too /dies, but i think it held my attention for some reason? i felt like if i hadn't been so determined to read it (it was on my list /dies) i'd have put it down because of the parts that made me ':/' (murders and such). SO I ACTUALLY GET WHAT YOU'RE SAYING. and i totally want some gay romance lmao. do you have any novels to rec with main-focus lesbian romances?
