Especially with the rough reputation that preceded him.
When he heard Skylar call out his name, he took a final minute to scribble some notes before pulling himself from the covers. Dressed in only a pair of boxers and a plain white tee shirt, he shuffled from her bedroom and into the living room- just in time to see Skylar wander into the kitchen with a small owl.
"Hey-"

"Hey. Meet Bona," she said, point towards the little barn owl on her shoulder who, in turn, bobbed his head up and down in way of greeting. He was literally the only good thing that ever came out of owls from her mother.
"I picked up dinner too-"
Maybe he wouldn't ask where Bona came from exactly.

"Is that what I think it is-" but he paused before finishing his statement, the sight of the owl properly catching his attention now. "Hey- who's owl is that?"

"Yes it it. I had a sudden craving for grilled pineapple," she grinned, heading over to one of the cupboards. There was a little stash of owl treats reserved for the rare occasion Bona popped in and he knew it too, his little neck already outstretched as Skylar pulled them down.
"This little guy is the Fawcett Family owl, Bonaparte."
As much as she dreaded any news from her mother, it was impossible not to smile at the way the little owl munched on his treat.
