My future Sis-in-law E recently got a job as a server at a popular local restaurant. She just got her first paycheck.

$2.13 per hour.

How in heavens name is that legal???

Did you know waitresses sign a waiver that they don't require minimum wage? The 'logic' being that they get tips so they make enough.

No. Just... No!

Yes, the federal minimum wage for tipped employees is $2.13. The reasoning is that they will make it up in tips. If they do not make enough tips, then the employer MUST make up the difference to the federal or state minimum wage, which ever is better for the employee; this is called the tip credit ( ... )
