This episode bugged me with Yuzuko wanting to play in the team. The message was that girls should know their place and stick to it. It's okay to get all these guys who have never played baseball on the team but not a girl? These rules only apply because no one challenges them.

I can understand the story is not about a girl who wants to join a baseball team because that would take it in a whole other direction, so don't bring it up at all!

Japan is such a sexist society and I think this episode only reinforced it.

It bugged me too how Yachida folded so easily after Nino's speech. If he's such a tough guy, it should take more than that to change his opinion.

To be honest I see it similar as you do. I didn't want to write it down so clearly but the sexistic message of this episode bugged me as well. I thought maybe I'm too sensible but since I'm not the only one seeing it like this... It's really a pity that they don't even let Yuzuko participate in the practice! I mean even if it's impossible for a girl to join the boys' team, she should at least participate practicing, right?

I think Yachida's opinion about Aoshi didn't completely change yet. I just think that he accepted him a little bit in comparison than before but I guess he will still think that Aoshi will have no chance with his methods and his team. Nevertheless I think that the speech of Aoshi-sensei made him realize that his intention is not to make fun of Baseball and that he indee takes it serious.

I personally thought this episode was a significant improvement on the first two. Although I agree with ^ that some of the stuff didn't make sense or the focus was strange (not letting a girl even participate, or the weird dynamic with Yoshida)...

It was interesting to pay attention to Kamezawa's part of the story, and get more of a glimpse into Aikawa's and Yuzuko's lives too. Things made a lot more sense afterwards. And it was cute how Tamo-sensei and Yuzuko had another catch ball (and they were much better compared to before!)

Yes, Kamezawa's part was really interesting, right? I also liked the scenes between Aikawa and Yuzuko - but what bugged me was that Akaiwa wanted Yuzuko to "turn back" being the manager as well and didn't support her in her wish to play baseball. No-one did in this episode that's what made me a bit sad and that's a reason why I don't like this episode as much as the others (although I like it of course ^^). I think they could at least let her practice together with them, even if she can't participate in a boys' baseball tournament.

A good thing of course was that this episode made it easier to get the relationship between Aoshi and Yuzuko. It was really cute that he played catch-ball with her in the past after her dad's death and I like the scene when they play catch-ball again in the end of the episode.

I think why there was a story about Yuzuko wants to play baseball, because they wanted to explain her character and her relationship with Aoshi-sensei. In the last scene, Yuzuko knew that Aoshi-sensei helped her to through her hard time because her father passed away.
When Yachida showed his skill after he heard Aoshi's speech, I think that's because Yachida finally felt that Aoshi took baseball seriously.
When Aoshi didn't care about Kamezawa condition, maybe it's his bad side. He just only wanted to show his method to Yachida.
But his speech made the members knew how to help Kamezawa.

What I like in this episode is, the relationship among the members, the scene when Yuzuko swung her umbrella (It's beautiful scene), and Aoshi's speech (the way you have to communicate with the others, not only in baseball but also in real life).

Sorry for the long post.I hope you understand what I meant:)

Oh, by the way I really love the PV of GUTS. I couldn't stop watching it:D

Yeah, it's true that Yuzuko's story tells us more about her relationship with Aoshi. I really liked the last scene when they played catch-ball together again!

I agree with you, I think as well that Yachida understood that Aoshi isn't just making fun about baseball like he thought before. And yes, the speech might really have helped the boys to figure out a way to help Kamezawa. The boys' relationship is really great in this episode, like I wrote, I think that their teamwork will also grow when they grow together on a personal level =) Akaiwa was really cute wanting to help Kamezawa, even if his method wasn't the best.

Yuzuko really impressed me in that one scene. Usually I do't think that Arinuma Kasumi is that beautiful. She's cute but not the type of woman that I would describe as beautiful but in this scene she really is! I really liked the look in her eyes!

GUTS PV is really awesome, isn't it? XD I really love it!

I thoroughly enjoyed the episode! Especially when all the boys freaked out because of the cockroach and only Yuzoko was game enough to step on it!

BUUT... I don't know if im really bad at understanding vibes.. does Yuzuko like Aoshi?? Or was she just grateful that he was there for her when she was little??

i can relate to that. i mean i understand that Aoshi was there to catch the balls she throws in place of her father and that she (should) is grateful to him. but when she whispered "arigatou", i kinda felt a different vibe from her. then again, maybe she just appreciate him so much and she's bad at showing some gratefulness.

i think Yuzuko likes Aoshi in a brotherly way since it was already revealed that she has a thing for Akaiwa. i wonder what would happen to them. the scene with the rainbow was cute, btw. XD

I agree, Yuzuko likes Aoshi in a brotherly or a friendship way I guess but I don't think that she has deeper feelings for him but likes Akaiwa instead. In the first episode I wasn't that sure about that, I have to admit but after the second episode for me it's kinda clear ^^ Let's see if they can make some progress, Akaiwa doesn't really seem to be interested, maybe he's traumatized by his fathers marriages and stuff ^^"

To be honest, I wasn't sure about who Yuzuko likes in the first episode - I wondered, does she like Aoshi or does she like Akaiwa? XD Well I think since second episode it's more clear, I think now that she's in love with Akaiwa. But nevertheless the likes Aoshi of course since they are so to say friends from childhood, even if "friends" might be a bit too much to call their relationship but I think it's close to a friendship.

The scene with the cockroach was hilarious XD I laughed so much! The boys, OMG XD

Sort of sad they weren't nicer to Yuzuko in this episode... it's like a general comment on sexism in Japan in my opinion. Girls aren't good enough for the boys baseball team, and even if you want to play baseball, well you're a girl so get back into your role. OTL Maybe that's just me being dramatic? She was so adorable in the baseball uniform.

Anyway, I'm curious about Yachida and how he feels about Aoshi (not only in my perverted BL way, but also as a straight forward character). It seems like he has a deeper role than I originally thought. I don't what what's going on with Tone, though, she's sort of annoying to me. There's probably a reason why she's hanging around and writing about them, but I don't really see it. What do you think?

I guess one of the most interesting things about this is watching the awkward boys sort out their feelings about baseball, school, each other, Yuzuko, and Aoshi-sensei. They're sort of getting motivated, but it's like they're not sure what to think about things yet, so it's really cute for me.

Hey Jessee! =) Oh, I donn't think that you're too dramatic. At least, I think similar than you do. I didn't write it that clear above because first I was thinking maybe I'm too sensitive but it seems that I'm not the only one thinking that the story of Yuzuko was pretty sexist... that's what bugged me in this episode. I didn't like that Aoshi didn't allow Yuzuko even to participate practicing even if she could not take part in a game, he could at least let her practice with them! And that Akaiwa wanted Yuzuko to go back being the manager instead of encouraging and supporting her, I didn't like that either. It's like you called it "you're a girl so get back into your role". I really felt sorry for Yuzuko because of this. And yes, the baseball uniform really fit her, I agree ( ... )

sorry for the random comment but the topic about Tone somehow took my interest. i agree that her character is pretty much useless (and somewhat annoying to me, but hey! any reporter can pass off as annoying since they're very persistent. nonetheless, respect for all the reporters out there.)i think it would be fun if somewhere along the way, they feature Tone's character background. you know, to make her character less useless and more worth investing into. it's just a thought though. :)

oh, and i kinda agree with the sexist thing in this ep. i mean, i get that girls can't play at Koshien but they could at least let her practice with them, at least until her player phase ends. that would've been nice.

again, sorry for the random comment.

Don't worry! I'm always happy if people join conversations =) You're right with the reporter-stuff! I really respect (and fear XD) people like that. I once wanted to become a reporter myself but I early learned that this is really not a job for me xD So I respect them even m ore. Nevertheless Tone is a character which is't really needed for the story I think. Well, in ep 4 she's a bit more "usefull" to pick up the wording so let's see. I'm not completely against her yet but I wouldn't really need her either.

Yepp here again - I can understand as well that Yuzuko can't participate in an all-boys event but she could at least be allowed to practice with the team >.> I know it's also important that they have a manager (or at least useful) for the club but it wouldn't hurt to let her hit some balls as well and stuff D=
