I came across this quote from Ben Franklin today

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

I laughed when I saw it, as it is great quote, although it seems Franklin didn't actually say it. an example is here:

One of my favorites by him, however, has always been:
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

Especially applicable toward the last 8 years.
