RL: Taking a ride with Ten~

Jan 24, 2008 14:00

Chloe nearly bolted out of her chair, barely making it downstairs before tripping. She wondered what Ten had in mind, not that she figured it was anything bad. She just wasn't sure what it was. Not seeing anything in the front yard, she headed to the backyard instead, wondering what she should be looking for.

As Chloe watched, a blue box, looking about as big enough for two people to fit in in a tight squeeze appeared in the branches of a nearby tree.

The doors of the TARDIS opened and Ten's head popped out. "Ermm. Oops. Be down in a minute, Chloe!" he yelled cheerily.

The blue box disappeared once more and re-materialized with a whoosh below the tree, scattering twigs from its earlier crash everywhere. Ten opened the doors and stepped out.

"Sorry about that! Bit of a miscalculation," he grinned, looking down at her.

"That I am," said Ten, though it was uncertain as to which statement he was replying to. He was still grinning like a Cheshire Cat as he watched Chloe open the doors.

Outside, Chloe could see the largest crowd she had probably ever seen in her young years, thousands upon thousands of people - not humans, people- crowded around. Mosh pits were opening up in several places, and images of the band were projected in thin air above the crowd.

The band on stage was made up of two humans on keyboard and guitar, a bassist/singer who had an extra eye in her forehead, and on the drums was a strange looking creature with 50 arms. From what they could see from the TARDIS, it looked like the gig was in full swing. Ten grinned.

"So Chloe Winsdale, what do you think?"

Chloe felt her jaw drop a little as she looked around, her green eyes twinkling in the light and from her own excitement. After it all sunk in, she squee'd loudly, giving Ten a big hug again. "Thank you!" she cried, beaming from ear to ear, "This is like that birthday present I always wanted as a kid, only better!" With that, she grabbed his hand, jogging towards into the crowd.

Ten, taken by surprise a little, nevertheless quickly adapted to being dragged into the crowd.

"So, where to first then? Right to the front? Mind you, could be a little difficult with all these people... I wonder..." he finished almost to himself, as if asking someone about the time of day. "Do they do glowsticks at these things? I hope so, because the ones from this time are BRILLIANT. D'you know that they've invented ones that will keep glowing for months? And change colour every time you blink or something like that? Fantastic stuff!"

Chloe giggled, keeping a hold on the Doctor's hand; it was a massive crowd, after all, and she didn't want to lose him. "That's so cool!" she said at the mention of the glowsticks, looking around. Seeing a man who had quite a few, she tapped him on the shoulder. "Um, excuse me?" she asked, the man turning around.

He had no mouth.

That didn't faze the redhead. "Do you think you could please lend my friend and I some glowsticks?" she asked, flashing her bright smile. The man with no mouth seemed to blush a bit before handing a couple over to the redhead. There was a pause, and then Chloe smiled again. "We can keep them? Really?" No Mouth nodded. "Thank you!" Chloe grabbed the man in a quick one-armed hug before handing a glowstick to the Doctor. "Aliens really are nice, aren't they?"

The Doctor grinned at Chloe, impressed at the fact that she was completely unfazed. "Yep. Well. Most of them. Have to watch out for a few. But that's the same everywhere, really." He snapped his glowstick, grinning at it with almost childlike glee. "I have to say Chloe, I'm impressed. Talking to an alien and one with no mouth. If I didn't know better I'd say you did this all the time."

Chloe snapped her own, shaking it a bit. "I wish I could," she admitted, "Life in Chugworth gets boring sometimes... Besides, talking with him wasn't that big a deal. We're all here to rock out. We speak the same language: Music!" She grinned, waving her glowstick a bit.

"Surely it can't be that boring if you're round there to shake things up a little," he replied, glancing at all the people cheerfully enjoying the gig around them.

"And as it is, you're absolutely right! What's the universe without something that everyone can understand? If you look hard enough you'll always find some music that we can relate to."

Meanwhile, on the stage, the singer finished the song and started speaking into the mike. "Thanks for being such a fantastic crowd! It's about the end of our set now, so for our last number we'd like to play you a classical Earth song." She winked at the band. "Hit it, guys!" Without further ado, the band launched into a rendition of something that was vaguely recognizable as an old AC/DC song. The Doctor shook his head in amusement and then stopped, as if something had occurred to him.

"Chloe..." he said, with a gleam in his eye. "How would you like to get backstage after all this is over?"

Chloe's jaw dropped again. "Ohmygod!" she cried, "You serious? But... We don't have passes." Maybe the Doctor had connections or something; she wouldn't be surprised.

The Doctor just grinned wider and dug around in his cavernous pockets. String... void glasses... ah! There!

He flipped open the wallet with the psychic paper and showed it to Chloe. "Chloe! Tell me what you can see on here."

Chloe peered at the paper, then smiled. "Peanut butter!" she replied, "On a rabbit. That's stuck to a turtle." She giggled. "The legs are wiggling."

Yes, her ADHD had kicked in a little.

"Right! And also completely wrong," he grinned, making the paper go blank again. He leaned in and showed her, explaining, "It's slightly psychic paper, shows you whatever I want you to see. So it could be a security clearance, or something saying I'm the President, or..." he grinned, inviting her to finish the sentence.

Chloe blinked as the light bulb went off in her head. "Or backstage passes!" she cried, squeeing and once again hugging the Time Lord, "You sneaky little time traveler, you!"

He grinned. "Yep, that's me, sneaky!" He gently extracted himself from Chloe's hug and grabbed her hand, dashing towards the front of the crowd. "So! Off we go! If we don't start now it could take us ages to move through this crowd, I only hope I remember where we parked! Not that I'm likely to forget, obviously," he added as an afterthought.

"It's hard to miss a blue box!" she replied, laughing as she was dragged through the crowd. She was loving every moment of this, making a mental note to tell Sally all about it.She probably wouldn't believe her, but that was fine. She knew it was real... and that's what mattered.

"Very true, very true," he admitted. "Unless you're in 1950s Britain. Then finding which box is yours can be a bit of a nightmare."

He stopped, looked around, and dragged her off again towards a roped-off area. Two muscly looking bodyguards with name tags were standing in front of it.

"Ermm, hi," Ten said, smiling. "Any chance of getting back here? We've got a pass, look -" he flashed the psychic paper "-see? The Doctor plus one. She's Chloe. She's my plus one," he grinned. Slowly, one of them nodded and stood aside.

"Thanks!" he grinned. He waved the psychic paper at Chloe, saying conspiratorially, "See, easy as that!"
