From a 5000 chip start I breezed up a bit, then down a bit, then ran a lowly pair of aces into four of a kind ( Read more... )

Didn't know you played poker (or did I? Maybe I did, and I've just forgotten). Are you in a regular game or anything?

We play about every three-four weeks. It's one of these things where a regular bunch of mates who used to go to the pub together all the time have stopped going to the pub so much, so poker has become the reason we still manage to get together. It's a NL freezeout holdem tournament format. The "second chance saloon" was a major innovation - you only get half your chips at the start, so you can bust once and still be in the game.

How about you? Do you have a regular game?

Not really; trying to set one up with the Vampire LARPers at the moment, but it's working out at a game every month or so. I do keep badgering ubiquitous_cat to get some games going, cos we used to have a semi-regular thing.

Well add me to the groundswell of support for that. What stakes do/did you guys play for? Inflation has recently taken our buyin from thirteen to fifteen quid. We have three economists in the group so this kind of thing is a major talking point.

I did try playing a game which was just for fun but honestly I'd rather go for the boardgames cupboard in that situation.
