The lady who called customer service about my rudeness was actually the second complaint I received over the last two weeks. The first one came in a letter to my boss saying that although I've always provided courteous and reliable service for his company, he thinks I shouldn't be listening to headphones while I work. It's unsafe and makes me

But be sure to get up every morning and bless the fact that you are "allowed" to work and have a job. Remember, YOU are contributing nothing to society or the economy - you are not valued or appreciated - just "suffered to exist". Genuflect regularly to show your inferiority.
Poor Skullard.

You read the employee handbook.
When I first started this job, I tried listening to audio books on a boombox, but I couldn't make out what was being said over the engine. We basically drive big diesel boxes, and I haven't been able to find anything I can hear short of something I can stick directly into the ear. I can't even hear when the company calls me on the cell phone unless I'm out of the truck and away from the engine.
What I'd love is one of those hats you can put beer cans on either side, except mount computer speakers there. Then everyone could enjoy my podcasts . . . and it would look oh so professional.

Yeah, the iPod was great therapy along with great entertainment. I do have depressive tendancies and drowning out the negative inner voices and breaking spirals of regret was a big, big help. Like I said, I've got to find something else for my brain to do in order to keep me mentally and emotionally fit. Sadly, as long as I get the packages delivered, my employers couldn't care less if I'm a mental mess or not.
I will keep trying to way to beat the system, for my wellbeing if nothing else. If all else fails, I'll find a mantra I can chant.
Fuck the bastards, fuck the bastards, fuck the bastards, fuck the bastards . . .
