Ministry Formation - my theory

May 31, 2008 12:47

So Yeddyurappa has been finally sworn in as the CM of Karnataka, this time hopefully for a longer period. Some 29 people have already been sworn in with him, leaving just four more slots (there is a limit of 34 on the size of the ministry). Trouble has already started brewing as some senior leaders and long-term MLAs (such as Jagadish Shetter, ( Read more... )

Too many constraints man. I wonder if this government will survive for full 5 years.

Managing Congress that way is easier. Dumb people and stupid leaders. So, if Sonia Gandhi says something and gets all sentimental, the rest will wet their bed with tears and nod their heads to what she says! This is not the case with BJP. BJP has generally intelligent people or at least it is perceived that way that it has intelligent people. So, it is hard to contain dissidence within BJP. It is easy to contain dissidence in Congress and Gowdru party.

Let us hope that this government survives for 5 years!

congress will remain together because it's a "supreme leader party" (i hope to blog about this breed sometime soon).

yeah BJP has more intelligent people in general so tougher to manage. but it also means there aer more intelligent people managing it. let's see.

"to successfully remain in government for five years, AND to come back to power the next election"

I don't think that's true all the time - some times, all they think of is the short-term gains from being in power for a few years, and making the most of it, financially and otherwise. At least that seems to be a problem - short-term thinking.

i guess this happens especially in states like TN where anti-incumbency is a given - irrespective of how well you perform

i think the system was formed wtih teh intention that people will try to come back to power in teh next election so they'll try to do a good job now.

Chettiars are non-vegetarians, right?

I guess, they are vegetarians who occasionally tuck into non-vegetarian delicacies.

I have come across some Seths who are Jains, they might have been vaishnavites who embraced Jainism.

Gujju Seths are vaishnavite and vegetrians.

Chettiar, Chetty, Shetty, Seth and many other variations trace their origin to Samskrit word "Shreshti" which means a trader.

i'm not sure the veg-nonveg thing matters
i mean it's there even within a caste. it's more of a regional thing.
for example, even among brahmins, Bongs and GSBs are heavily nonveg.

i think all this has to do more with profession. so people who converted to jainism still kept the derivative of shreshti as their surname.

and you're right about the derivations from shreshti
