Well, my computer has crashed and burned and it looks like the only way to recover it is to re-install windows xp again. This is something that needed doing anyway, but it would have been nice if it had waited untill a term break to screw up. Reinstall scheduled for this weekend. Cleaning scheduled for tonight. Pictures soon, a midterm now.
