Most lack threreof of customer service can be traced to the fact that a majority of customers feel that just because it is our job to serve them and we will get in trouble if we don't that they can act like total pricks

I agree that customers often have that attitude. However, there is also a growing disregard among corporations for the humanity of their customers and a discarding of any philosophy remotely resembling "The customer is always right." The company in question's CSRs seem to exist not to help their customers solve problems but to help their customers spend money on their "services", whether the cutomer wants them or not.

Customers should treat representatives of any organization with respect, at least until such time as the representative sets foot across the boundaries of propriety or shows blatant disrespect for the customer. :)
