More later when I have time to process, but this is just a note to commemorate the day when I accepted a tenure-track job at East LA College. I'm beyond excited.
It's a little bit crazy. Today was "Opening Day," when all the permanent faculty show up and do a bunch of little professional development workshops. For me, the main benefit was hanging out all day with my new colleagues, who are great.
Classes start Monday, and it remains to be seen how that'll go without access to rosters, one of my textbooks, Turnitin, keys, parking permit, employee number, email, an office, knowledge of what I'm supposed to do about office hours, Canvas (apparently they're moving away from Moodle), knowledge of which audio streaming services are available (if any), a contract, or a job title. I'm sure it'll all get resolved in the next week or so, but my first week is going to be a little ramshackle.
Luckily, my colleagues are really helpful. One is already bugging our dean about the roster stuff, and another gave me his login/pw so I can use the classroom computers.
