I put off reading Shadow of the Templar because it didn't seem like something I'd enjoy, but boy was I wrong. I'm completely hooked. I'm halfway through Book Two and I think I'm going to be so sad once I finish Book Three and can't go immediately into the final installation. They're so much fun

Gabe captains a ship, but he's an eccentric merchant, not a pirate!

A history prof of mine asked once, what the difference was between a pirate and merchant. After listening to us try to figure it out, apparently, the difference is that a pirate ship is empty (has no loot) and a merchent ship is full (has loot).

Seriously, how are you finding these fics? There's a ton of original fic online, but most of it is huge crap. Is there some rec site I'm missing?

Nope, I'm just trolling the "original" and "originalfic" tags on delicious! I wade through a lot of crap to get the good stuff, though. This, I'd idly come across last month and bookmarked it just in case - the write up didn't seem like something I'd really enjoy - but I was bored on the train two days ago and gave it a whirl and I can't stop reading it now!
