Huh, I'd never heard it before, except when people do things like set up their own solar panels/other alternate energy and are off the power grid. The guy in the book claimed he lived "off the grid", what's the general meaning?
Sure, sure, off the 'power' grid. I get it. I always understood 'off the grid' to mean either you erase all evidence of your existence in any and all records or your parents don't report your birth so you grow up SINless with no traces of you in the system.
