Goodreads Recommends--Europe!

Doing this while I still have a relatively high amount of free time before the New Year. Tonight we'll look at what Goodreads recommends to me based on my Europe shelf. Here I place books that are either set in Europe (other than the British Isles) or are written by European authors. Naturally, this results in a mixed bag of actual genres. ( Read more... )

-Alice 19th, Vol. 01: Lotis Master by Yuu Watase-

For series by Yuu, I prefer Fuushigi Yugi Genbu Kaiden (though it's not as european). Anyway, all of Yuu's stuff is very shojo.

-
Batman and Robin, Vol. 1: Batman Reborn by Grant Morrison-

Fairly popular run, though for Morrison, I'd recommend his Animal Man run.

-
Superman: Birthright by Mark Waid-

Very good one! About a guy in what's basically the real world, who's named Clark Kent after the character, and discovers he has Superman's power.

-Superman: Up, Up, and Away! by Kurt Busiek-

Takes place after DC's Infinite Crisis event. Superman's powers have been knocked out for a bit and are in the process of recovering during the story. Solid, but Busiek's done better (Astro City), and there's some Superman stories like Birthright that I'd recommend higher too.

-Also, can you recommend any good books (in English) set in Jamaica?
-

I cannot say that I've ever read a book set in Jamaica.

I got the comics on this list mainly for liking Paul Cornell's run on "Demon Knights."

I chose to ask about Jamaica since I looked at the stats for countries of origin for people who visited my blog, and Jamaica was at the very bottom with only one click. (Goodreads' top book with Jamaica in the title is "High Wind From Jamaica" which at least starts there, but is mostly about pirates and the maybe innocent children they kidnap.)
