Loeb more recently hasn't been too good, but I'm told this was one of his better ones back when he made good stuff.

I can't offer much advice on the mystery side of things ^^ Almost all mystery I read is SF-mystery.

I've heard that "The Long Halloween" has the flaw of making it impossible for the person who's the real killer to have done it, without explaining how they got around the impossible part.

Science fiction is still a couple of posts away.
